Abstract
Hernia is a common problem of the modern world with higher incidence in developing countries. Hernias can develop in many regions of the body demonstrating various types. Many risk factors seem to be associated with its development, and various treatment modalities from conservative management to operative repair have also evolved with advancement in technology. Early detection is a key for complete and effective treatment of hernias. This review will attempt to demonstrate hernia types and risk factors and also provide an overview of the current management and surgical techniques and future approaches for both preventing and treating hernias.
