Mostafa El-Sheekh is Professor of Phycology at Tanta University, Egypt. He has nearly 38 years of experience in research and teaching in the fields of algae, microbiology, and their applications. Dr. El-Sheekh served as the Vice Dean and Dean Faculty of Science at Tanta University, Egypt, and as a cultural counselor in the Egyptian Embassy in Yemen and Uzbekistan. He also served as Vice President of Tanta University for postgraduate studies and research. He holds a Ph.D. in Phycology from Tanta University and Göttingen University, Germany as a Chanel System fellowship. He is the recipient of fellowships in Germany, Hungary, India, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Japan.
His areas of research are Biotechnology of microalgae and macroalgae as biofertilizers, Taxonomy of microalgae, Genetic engineering of microalgae, Photosynthesis of algae, Algae as monitors for environmental pollution, algae, and cyanobacteria as a source of antimicrobial substances. Use of algae and cyanobacteria for the degradation of environmental pollutants. Use of algae to alleviate toxic effects of drugs and fatty liver in animals and humans. Biodiesel from microalgae, biodegradation of wastes for beneficial use.
He is the author of more than 215 papers, 13 book chapters, and 4 books. He also serves as an editorial member and reviewer for more than 92 peer-reviewed journals. He published several papers on the production of biodiesel, ethanol, and hydrogen from algae. He was one of the world’s top 2% of scientists, published by Stanford University in 2020 and 2021.
He is serving as the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Alternative Fuels and Energy.
